The British Walkers - Shake-1967

The British Walkers weren’t actually British, they were an American band whose sound was influenced by The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Kinks. Forming in 1964, The British Walkers lasted only four years, breaking up in 1968. Initially, “Shake” had been written and recorded by Sam Cooke. Their version released on the Cameo Parkway label in Mar 1967 was a top 40 hit, getting airplay at radio stations such as WMCA in New York and WRKO in Boston.

Don McLean- American Pie 1972

Recorded and released on the American Pie album in the winter of 1971, the single was a number-one US hit for four weeks in 1972. When asked what "American Pie" meant, McLean jokingly replied, "It means I don't ever have to work again if I don't want to."
